The exhibition "Illustrators for Gianni Rodari" reaches New Zealand

Opening on October 17 in Auckland on the occasion of Artweek Auckland and the Week of the Italian Language in the World

«New Zealand has a strong tradition of children literature, but Rodari is virtually unknown here», says Alessandra Zecchini, Italian Festival director and member of the Dante Alighieri Society Auckland Committee. «We heard about this exhibition and have immediately thought to bring it to the country, to let New Zealand public know the excellence of Italy in publishing and illustration».

So, the exhibition conceived by Bologna Children’s Book Fair and Emilia-Romagna Region to celebrate the centenary of Rodari’s birth comes to Auckland, where it has been organized by Dante Alighieri Auckland in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Wellington, Festival Italiano Auckland, Oratia Books, NEWMARKET, with a setting curated by Nicoletta Benella.

The exhibition opens on October 17 on the occasion of Artweek Auckland and the Week of the Italian Language in the World, and is set in Newmarket display spaces until October 25.

Illustrators for Gianni Rodari. Italian Excellence, curated by Cooperativa Giannino Stoppani/Accademia Drosselmeier, presents works by twenty-one Italian illustrators who in the last fifty years have illustrated and re-interpreted Rodari’s stories, ranging from historic figures and famous contemporary artists to the younger generation: from Bruno Munari to Emanuele Luzzati, from Altan to Beatrice Alemagna, from Alessandro Sanna to Valerio Vidali, just to name a few.

A plunge into the wonderful and colourful world of the master of Italian literature for children that surely will fascinate New Zealand public.
