Belgium – The new show by Romeo Castellucci

World premiere of "La vita nuova" at the Kanal-Centre Pompidou. In Brussels, until December 3rd

Romeo Castellucci is renowned as one of the most prominent avant-garde theater artists. Director, stage designer, visual artist, his creations have been represented in the most important international theatres and theatre festivals in many Countries worldwide .

Since last September, he has been in Brussels for a joint project by La Monnaie, Bozar and Kanal-Centre Pompidou, which engaged him as director of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, as visual artist on the occasion of the exhibition on Theodoor van Loon, as author and director a new work, La vita nuova.

On November 28th, the show was performed world premiere at the Kanal-Centre Pompidou, where it is on stage until December 3rd.

We read in the director’s notes the action takes place «in a large parking lot», a «grey European, American, Chinese, Russian, Australian, Latin American parking lot». Here a handful of men meet, brothers who «intend to inaugurate a new and better way of living together».

And everything start way here, it is necessary to talk about the future, as reality is a «perverted desert» and other forms, «new domestic and aesthetic hearths» must be constructed.

And in the here and now of this desolated parking lot, «transmutations of objects and transvaluations of all values of art and humanity» take place.
