HOW MUCH AND WHERE
More than 400 events spread the cultural heritage and activities “made in Emilia-Romagna” worldwide.
Performing arts, cinema, exhibitions, lectures, meetings, promotional events were presented in 236 cities of 83 countries all around the world.
France, United States, Germany, China, and Spain, in that order, are the countries which hosted the largest number of events.
In detail:
- in Europe, 273 events in 166 cities of 34 Countries, and above all in France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Poland, Serbia;
- in Asia, 56 events in 33 cities of 14 Countries, China (22 cities) and Japan, in particular;
- in South America: 26 events in 11 cities of 5 Countries, Argentina and Brazil first;
- in North America: 48 events in 17 cities of the 3 Countries, and mainly in the United States;
- in Africa: 12 events in 7 cities of 3 Countries, South Africa, in the lead;
- in Australia: 2 events in 2 cities.
WHAT
theatre
One more time, theatre occupies the highest ranking on cultural export: about 200 performances by 22 companies and production centers from Emilia-Romagna were staged in important international theatres and festivals, and several workshops, artistic residences, masterclasses, meetings occurred as well.
A special mention apart is deserved to children theatre, and in particular to La Baracca-Testoni Ragazzi company who staged 14 shows in 26 cities, mostly in Europe and China, and to Teatro Gioco Vita with 5 shows in 16 cities, mainly in Europe and in the United States.
An extraordinary outcome was reached by Mutus theatre company with the acclaimed show MDLSX, which, from Canada to Australia via 13 European countries, continued in 20 cities the successful tour started two years before, while the company was also working to the new project PANORAMA, premiered in New York on 29 December 2016.
And still much and different theatre, in Europe above all, with ERT and Pippo Delbono, with Societas and Castellucci, and with Teatro Due Mondi. And it is no coincidence that these shows are co-produced with European partners and have made their debut abroad.
music
Music too crossed many borders, visiting 40 cities in Europe, North America, and Asia, with 43 concerts and a large repertoire performed by 16 orchestras, groups, and soloists. Among them, those who stand out for number of performances are two very peculiar ensamble: Accademia Bizantina and Soqquadro Italiano.
dance
Dance performances were 32, above all in European countries but also in the Far East. Among the 9 dance companies from Emilia-Romagna -both “historical” and emerging- staging abroad, Aterballetto was the most active.
cinema
79 screenings of films by past and present directors from Emilia-Romagna, and retrospectives dedicated to them, besides lectures and seminars, in 43 cities around the world. The great narrators and testimonials of this region are still Antonioni (2017 was the 10th anniversary of his death), Bellocchio, Zurlini, Bertolucci, and above all the unforgettable Federico Fellini.
Added to this is the precious work by the Cineteca di Bologna and its “Cinema Ritrovato”, carried in Canada, France, Turkey, Slovakia.
exhibitions
The exhibitions of painting, cinema, design, illustration, promotion of Emilia-Romagna traditions and history were 25, set in 35 cities mainly in Europe and Asia, but also in the United States. It is worth mentioning amongst them the exhibit The legacy of 1000 years of Italian ceramics by the MIC - International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, that on 25 December 2016 opened in Shenzhen the fifth and last step of its tour in China, where it has up to now been visited by one million and 87 thousand people.
And, midway between exhibition and cinema, there is the activity of Centro Cinema Città di Cesena, present in several European countries and in China with 5 different exhibits of beautiful images from its photographic collections.
promotional events 
Some “special” promotional events organized:
the presentation of Festival Verdi and the film series of its most representative opera productions; the concert Pavarotti forever at the Astana Opera House, performed by M° Andrea Griminelli & Friends, a tribute to the great tenor from Modena on the 10th anniversary of his death; the concert The Roads of Friendship conducted by Maestro Riccardo Muti in Teheran, as usual given again in Italy within the Ravenna Festival.
