Germany – tellKujira at the Moers Festival

The avant-garde quartet produced by Area Sismica will perform on June 6

“Avant-garde quartet, stylistically stateless, at times hypnotic”: the tellKujira – that is Ambra Chiara Michelangeli (viola/fx), Francesco Diodati (guitar/fx), Francesco Guerri (cello), Stefano Calderano (guitar/fx).

A few months since its debut, on June 6 the young group of musicians will perform at the  International New Jazz Festival Moers, an internationally recognized event in the free jazz music scene, this year at the 51st edition (June 3-6).

The tellKujira starts playing together in autumn 2020, focusing on improvisation and collective writing, instant composition, timbre, prepared instruments, alternative tunings.
«We imagined a sort of rock band in the form of a classic quartet, with two electric guitars instead of two violins. By virtue of this 'chamber' choice, every individualism has been set aside in favour of a "We", a focal centre that would also be the centre of our music».
In this groove, a flexible musical path was born, in a versatile blend of poly-rhythms, timbres, and soundscapes that does not hesitate to de-construct any type of language.

The quartet – who this summer will also be guest of important Italian festivals such as Umbria Jazz – is produced by Forlì based Area Sismica association, one of the most important European organizations for avant-garde music, in the frame of a project supported by the Emilia-Romagna Music Commission aimed at developing activities of scouting and promotion of emerging musical talents.

The tellKujira’s performance at the Moers Festival is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute in Cologne.
