Greece -Exhibit “Illustration for Children - Italian excellence”

Opened on the occasion of the 36th IBBY international congress, the exhibit curated by Bologna Children’s Book is in Athens until September 19th

The 36th IBBY - International Board on Books for Young People international congress is part of the wide programme for the UNESCO nomination of Athens World Book Capital City 2018.

On the occasion of its opening on August 30th, the exhibition Illustration for Children - Italian excellence has also been opened at the Italian Cultural Institute in Athens, where it is set until September 19th.

With more than 60 works by 18 Italian illustrators awarded at the Bologna Children's Book Fair different editions, the exhibit is an overall view on the creativity, fantasy and imaginary of illustrators who have created a new tune in illustrated albums for youth, and, thanks to their expressive richness, have drawn to the world’s attention the high quality of Italian illustration.

They are different generations and “pencils”, famous illustrators and nowadays young talents, all of them good “craftsmen of the stroke”, able to create amazement and to modify our view, turning seeing into looking at. They are contemporary artists, who decline illustration as a complex language, as the result of a research that makes art meet the rhythm of narration.

The successful exhibition (it has already been in Berlin, Abu Dhabi, Sofia, Beijing, Cairo, Teheran, Guangzhou, Santiago Chile, Athens and Thessaloniki) has been realized thanks to the collaboration among Bologna Children's Book Fair, the Italian Cultural Institutes, and the office for Cultural Activities abroad of Emilia-Romagna Region.
