Aterballetto in New York at the "Fall for Dance Festival"
Prestigious international appointment for the CCN/Aterballetto, invited to perform at the Fall for Dance Festival, the famous annual event bringing in New York the best in dance from all over the world.
The company presents the U.S. premiere of Rhapsody in Blue, the new creation by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich based on the famous musical composition by George Gershwin.
It is a choreography for sixteen dancers, with set and costume design curated by Fabio Cherstich, and light design by Eric Soyer. The rhapsody itself dictated the choreographic work, the lively changes, the electric modulations with which the choreographers "played".
«Rhapsody in Blue is a fantastic toy for a choreographer, for a creative», Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich explain. «Being so powerful, so cheerful, so sparkling, it is characterized by constant variations of form and seems to traverse an enchanted forest: in a few steps, you encounter a magical being, an unreal sky that changes colour above you. You move in this fantastic world, where the rhapsody offers a sound space where everything is possible, where new elements constantly peek out from every corner, and you are continuously surprised. Bodies react to agitated and always different inputs. We played with all this, closing our eyes and dreaming of new worlds every time we encountered a new theme».
Rhapsody in blue is on stage at New York City Center on September 26 and 27 (7:30 pm). And it will be a truly special event: in 2024 Gershwin’s composition marks 100 years since its first performance, which took place in New York in 1924.
