Cezc Republic – Soqquadro Italiano at the "Dvořák Olomouc" International Music Festival

On May 16, the ensemble performs "Who’s afraid of Baroque?"

Soqquadro Italiano is among the guests of Dvořák Olomouc, international music festival dedicated to Antonín Dvořák now at its 20th edition.

Olomouc's connection with the Bohemian composer has a long tradition and the Festival – one of the oldest in the Country – aims to commemorate his work and legacy in new perspectives and contexts. This is confirmed by the programme of this 2022 edition, which proposes, as opening concert, Uri Cane performing Beethoven.

Soqquadro Italiano and the show they present fits perfectly in this dialogue between modernity and tradition, since the contamination between past and present is one of the basic principles of the ensemble’s artistic research.

Who’s afraid of Baroque? is not a concert nor a theatrical performance but an unusual and funny insight into Seventeenth century Italian music and culture, a game of fusion, ranging between jazz improvisation and the art of diminution, between jests of the Commedia dell'Arte and swing atmospheres. Multi-talented Vincenzo Capezzuto, always poised between classical expressiveness and popular immediacy, is "the voice and body" of this project built up with lightness and humor by artistic director Claudio Borgianni.

The performance is staged on May 16 (07:00 pm) in the charming setting of the Hradisko monastery, large baroque complex on the top of a hill on the edge of the city.

Soqquadro Italiano's tour is  supported by ATER Fondazione.
