Spain – Mariangela Gualtieri at the "Barcelona Poesia" festival
Poet and playwright Mariangela Gualtieri is the co-founder, with director Cesare Ronconi, of Teatro Valdoca theatre company of Cesena. She is known for her work on the oral dimension of poetry, focusing on the voice amplification and the relationship between poetic verse and live music. She likes to call her recitals ‘Riti sonori’ (sonic rituals) because she tries to retrieve a tense and inspired listening of the writing process, and to do so together with the audience.
On occasion of the Barcelona Poesia festival (May 6-13, 2025), Mariangela Gualtieri is on stage on May 6 with the sonic ritual La celeste pazzia (celestial madness), at the Teatre Akadèmia (7 pm).
The celestial madness, in Gualtieri’s words, «could be one of the infinite answers to the big question: “what is poetry?”. Poetry is music, and as such it is acoustic energy that can become phonic enchantment, involving the body and the joy of the body».
The event is presented by the Italian Cultural Institute in Barcelona, organised in collaboration with Teatro Valdoca and Teatre Akadèmia.
Gualtieri also takes part in the festival on May 7 in the event European Recital, an event that celebrates the diversity of European female voices.
Five renowned female poets gather for a unique recital, an evening in which poetry will weave links between languages, cultures and sensibilities, affirming as a space for dialogue and exchange on a European scale. An invitation to discover unique universes and feel the power of words beyond borders.
Together with Mariangela Gualtieri, the poets: Jean Poncet (France), Gemma Gorga i López (Catalonia), Ulrike Almut Sandig (Germany), Lucie Joy (France).
The event is curated by the EUNIC – EU National Institutes for Culture cluster in Barcelona (Goethe-Institut, Institut français, Istituto Italiano di Cultura), organised in collaboration with the Institut Ramon Llull.
