International Call for concerts in the Basilica of San Vitale
The Vespers at San Vitale is a programme of sacred music concerts within the Ravenna Festival, taking place from June 9th to July 12th every day at 7 pm, the time of the Vespers, in the Basilica of San Vitale, one of the eights UNESCO World Heritage sites in Ravenna, a symbol of the city in the Byzantine age.
It is an appointment with beauty, suspended between the solemn elegance of the Basilica, shining with gold and mosaics, and the charms of music.
The concerts are selected through an international call, whose deadline is January 30, 2020.
The call is open to choirs, ensembles, and soloists –without any limit of age or nationality– to select concerts no longer than 30-40 minutes.
The proposals must show high musical quality, comply with the sacred context of the venue, distinguish themselves for originality, especially concerning rarely-performed repertoires and regional traditions. Musical theatre in the shape of mystery plays will be given special attention.
The selected concerts will be included in this “festival within the festival” as a part of the programme of the 31st edition of the Ravenna Festival.
