The Netherlands – Teatro Necessario at Spoffin Festival
Spoffin is an international festival for street arts and site-specific theatre in the historical city centre of Amersfoort, a great event that every year attracts an audience of over 40,000 visitors.
The 13th edition takes place from August 25 to 27 and presents a main programme of twenty-six performances by national and international artists. A programme dedicated to young emerging artists is also offered, besides residencies in support of new creations and an international professionals meeting including debates and artist's pitches.
Like every year, the festival has a focus country, and this year Italy was chosen as the focus country because - explains Spoffin's artistic director Alfred Konijnenbelt - «a few years ago, in Italy, there was renewed attention to circus and street theatre. This has led to a new flourishing within these disciplines, and this year we are reaping the benefits».
Among the Italian artists invited, Teatro Necessario, which, in fact, since 2022 has been supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) as a Contemporary circus production centre.
The company presents Nuova Barberia Carloni, at its debut in Holland, that will be staged on August 25 and 26 (four performances, scheduled at 8 pm and 11 pm).
It is an extremely captivating show, applauded by audiences and critics alike, in which three hilarious barbers – musicians and acrobats, elegant and clumsy – recreate the atmosphere of the old barbershop. “Fun, intellect, great skills: this is Teatro Necessario. Always excellent. (…) A beautiful, contagious joy, circus, cabaret, and variety together. Theatre!” (Valeria Ottolenghi).
The three barbers/musicians will certainly amuse audiences of all ages with their special care. “Get ready for a trip to the barber as you never experienced before” –, is the festival’s introduction.
