German premiere of “Don Juan” by Aterballetto

The performance opens the season of the Forum am Schlosspark in Ludwigsburg. October 16-17

Aterballetto dance company opens the “Kultur” season of the Forum am Schlosspark in Ludwigsburg and on October 16 and 17 performs Don Juan, the new choreography by Johan Inger awarded the "Danza & Danza Award" as the best Italian dance production in 2020.

In order "to face" Don Juan/Don Giovanni –an ancient and still contemporary, truly paradigmatic myth–, Inger and playwright Gregor Acuña-Pohl read twenty-five different texts inspired by him, and the show features all the characters of the story.

The 16 dancers of Aterballetto tell the story of Don Juan in a single act, to an original score by Marc Álvarez created for the occasion and immersed in a neutral scenic space, curated by Curt Allen Wilmer with no geographical or historical connotation: a labyrinth of black and white blocks moved on sight by dancers. On the other hand, the costumes have well defined traits thanks to the visual creativity of Bregje van Balen.

Underlining tones and emotions, the dance becomes a ‘magnifying glass’ for each of the characters, revealing the inner world of men and women on stage and the complexity of dialogue between genres.

«Inger uses movement to dig into the innermost human feelings and lay out a convincing dance story, frame after frame. His plot is immediately readable, and Aterballetto shines in all its splendor» (Maria Luisa Buzzi, Danza&Danza).

First performed in Italy in October 2020, staged in Austria and France in the same month, shortly before the pandemic forced the closure of theatres, the production comes to Ludwigsburg as a German premiere.
