Canada – “Girotondo” by La Baracca-Testoni Ragazzi
WeeFestival of Arts and Culture for Early Years of Toronto is dedicated to theatre and performing arts created especially for children. Yearly, the best productions by national and international companies are selected to compose – together with workshops, conferences, meetings, a dynamic and diverse programme offered to children 0-6 years and their families.
The Festival was scheduled from May 4th to 24th, but the pandemic condition forced the organizers to cancel the appointment.
Nevertheless, WeeFestival asked the guest artists a ‘virtual’ participation by sharing some content created for the Festival.
La Baracca-Teatro Testoni Ragazzi, the company based in Bologna recognized worldwide as a leader in the field of theatre for the very young, and former guest of the 2014 and 2016 editions of WeeFestival, has provided the show Girotondo, previously scheduled in this year edition.
The performance is broadcast online on May 26th, at 10:00, in co-operation with the Italian Cultural Institute of Toronto, which included it in its programming of ‘theatre experience at a distance’.
Girotondo is an amusing and delicate show for children 1-4 years, made of circular motions, constantly changing, of music and magical, playful images. It is a journey for amazed and curious eyes through suspended worlds that can be observed as we all fall down with our nose up in the air.
Girotondo won the Michel Indali Award for Best Performance at the 2017 edition of Kolibri Évadnyitó Fesztivál of Budapest.
