French premiere of “Cassandra” by Teatro Gioco Vita
Cassandra is a new creation by Teatro Gioco Vita for young and adults. It is a show in which the character of Cassandra emerges from the folds of the myth and becomes our contemporary: the Cassandra of Teatro Gioco Vita is a teenager who cannot bear to witness the devastating process of extinction that is taking place without giving her own ‘testimony’.
“Why can’t they see the world crumbling around us?”, queries the stunned Cassandra. Her question is addressed to everybody, to tell us we can't wait any longer: the world around us is collapsing under the weight of many environmental disasters.
The show is a project by Enrica Carini, who curated the text, and Fabrizio Montecchi, who signs the direction and set design. Two actresses take the stage, both as narrators, interpreters of the main characters, Cassandra and Arisbe, and puppeteers of their shadow doubles. They take us on a journey suspended between past and future, where Cassandra and Arisbe appear to us as shadow puppets.
Cassandra premiered in June 2022 at the Italian festival ‘Colpi di Scena’ by Accademia Perduta/Romagna Teatri. The international debut will be in France, on March 12, at the Maison du Théâtre in Amiens (2:00 pm and 7:30 pm).
The show is part of ‘Marionettes en Chemins’, the travelling season 2023-24 organized by Le Tas de Sable - Ches Panses Vertes, Centre National de la Marionnette in Rivery in partnership with different centres and theatres in the Hauts-de-France region.
