China – Motus at ACT Shanghai Contemporary Theatre Festival
The 15th ACT -Shanghai Contemporary Theatre Festival is in full swing in Shanghai (September 6-October 13, 2024). The event, which since its first edition, in 2005, has paid particular attention to the experimental scene, is organised by the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre (SDAC) in various venues with the aim of both introducing innovative productions from around the world to local audiences, and providing a platform for national and foreign professionals where one can discover inspiring international works.
Motus theatre company attends with Of the nightingale I envy the fate, one of the two spin off performances of Tutto Brucia, their re-writing of Euripides' The Trojan Women, a work with which the company once again deals with themes and figures from the Greek classics offering a contemporary reinterpretation, related to the urgencies and contradictions of the present.
In this performance-cry, the victims of the patriarchal system claim their presence through the figure of Cassandra: the battle of the unheard young prophetess is evoked by the body-voice of Stefania Tansini in the moments before her unjust killing as a slave/adulteress and foreigner.
Of the nightingale I envy the fate is on stage at the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre. Three performances are scheduled, on September 28 (2:00 pm and 7:30 pm) and on September 29 (7:30 pm).
The show is presented with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai, which co-operates with the festival..
