Montenegro – The international debut of ErosAntEros’s new show
The primordial deity of inexhaustible creative power, the personification of the Earth and the ancestral mother of all life, is the protagonist of the new chapter of the aesthetic-political theatre by Davide Sacco and Agata Tomšič which develops a subject particularly dear to the two artists: the environmental catastrophe, pollution and exploitation of planet Earth by man.
After the premiere at the Ravenna Festival in June, GAIA is guest of the FIAT - Festival of International Alternative Theatre in Podgorica, first international stage of the performance.
GAIA is an evolving, participatory and site-specific "performative-dramaturgical-visual device", through which the company continues its vocal-musical research, in this case related to a refined video device, that urges the audience not to remain indifferent to the past, the present and the future of our one and only common home: Gaia, the Earth.
The performance intertwines different expressive levels. The text is both poetic and documentary, draws on mythology and literature, but also on scientific studies that testify to the reality of climate change and call for action. The scene – empty, inhabited only by the performers’ bodies – lives between visible and invisible between fog and video projections.
The project enters in relation to the places where it is hosted by bringing on stage with Agata Tomšič a group of non-professionals, activists, and young actors from the area. Moreover, by adapting the ephemeral set design of fog and projections to the spaces it meets, it experiments with new good practices that reduce the environmental impact of the production and circulation of shows.
GAIA is a co-production by Ravenna Festival and ErosAntEros - Polis Teatro Festival, and the project is supported by EFFEA - European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists, co-funded by the European Union.
The performance is on stage at FIAT on September 9, preceded by a workshop with young actors and climate activists from the area (September 4-8).
The tour is made with the support of Emilia-Romagna Region and ATER Fondazione.
