Germany – Two audiovisual installations by fuse* for the Zeiss-Großplanetarium in Berlin
The Berlin planetarium is not only a place of transmission of knowledge but also of interdisciplinary exchange, which hosts exhibitions, screenings, cultural events and activities. For some time now, the planetarium dome, in particular, has been a meeting place for art and technology, and here the art studio fuse* will present two impressive installations: two special dome adaptations of its works Luna Somnium and Multiverse.
Luna Somnium draws inspiration from what is considered the first science fiction work ever written: the "Somnium" (the dream), a short story written by John Kepler in 1600, in which the reader follows the protagonist’s journey to the moon, where he can see the Earth with different eyes, thanks to a new point of view on the Universe. Just like in Kepler’s tale, the exploration of reality from diverse viewpoints is at the core of the installation, which urges visitors to think about how a slight shift can affect their perception of reality.
Multiverse is based on Lee Smolin’s theory, according to which our universe is only one in a much larger cosmos (the Multiverse), a member of a growing community of universes, each one being born from the collapse following the formation of a black hole. The work evolves through the creation of a succession of digital paintings, attempting to represent the eternal birth and death of infinite parallel universes.
Luna Somnium .dome and Multiverse .dome are presented in a single “immersive experience” on June 25 (8 pm), in a dreamlike audiovisual show that has already enchanted Berlin spectators on April 30 and will return to enchant them next autumn.
