A new work by Marco D’Agostin premieres in Malta
«OKOKOK wants to conquer the record of stared stares, break the hardest of hearts, compete with itself and with every other choreography ever seen and danced before».
OKOKOK is Marco D'Agostin’s answer to Paolo Mangiola, artistic director of ŻfinMalta National Dance Company, who invited him to create a short work for the company.
In this new work – introduced as ‘a genetically modified musical’ – D’Agostin extends his research around entertainment as a specific form of relationship between performer and spectator, research that includes Everything is ok, that has toured Europe for over six years, and Best Regards, his recent tribute show to Nigel Charnock/DV8.
The performance is co-produced with Associazione Culturale VAN and supported by the Italian Cultural Institute of Valletta.
After a period of artistic residency, started in January, the premiere was on February 17 within the ŻfinDays, an annual programme conceived by Mangiola introducing works by choreographers who are currently in the spotlight on the international dance stage.
OKOKOK is staged again on February 24 (7:30pm, at the Valletta Campus Theatre), performed with Paolo Mangiola’s choreography Nuova Figura.
