United Kingdom – "50 - Santarcangelo Festival"

On August 25, online screening of the documentary by Mellara & Rossi curated by the ICI London

Hundreds of performances, theatre troupes; myriad encounters, words, passions and regrets, clashes. From the political theatre of the early 1970s to the theatre troupes and ‘Third Theatre' of the ‘80s; along with the actor's theatre, performance theatre and up to the 'No Theatre' Festival: the festival of the arts at large. The Santarcangelo Festival perfectly reflects the changing trends in the performing arts in our country and plays an important role in our artistic, political and social history.

Michele Mellara and Alessandro Rossi, filmmaker based in Bologna, and habitués of the Festival, were invited to draw up this unique experience and tell about the 50 years of Santarcangelo Festival, the oldest Italian festival dedicated to the arts of the contemporary scene, and one of the most significant in Europe.

«Santarcangelo Festival is a mosaic started fifty years ago, – the directors state – which we decided to put to the test, on film, for this historic anniversary, so that mosaic –of a city, a community, and an ideal– will live on over the years. Theatre is every civilization's buried demon».

50 - Santarcangelo Festival was produced by Mammut Film, production company based in Bologna, in collaboration with Santarcangelo Festival and Home Movies - Archivio nazionale del film di famiglia, with the support by the Emilia-Romagna Film Commission and the Municipality of Santarcangelo di Romagna.

On August 25, free online screening organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in London.

The movie is part of the series of documentaries dedicated to biographies and life stories offered thanks to a project by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) in collaboration with Biografilm Festival and in partnership with the Italian Cultural Institutes’ world network.

The series is also part of the MAECI italiana portal (italiana.esteri.it) for the promotion of Italian language, culture and creativity in the world.
