"The Other Side", new video-creation by Aterballetto

On June 25, premiere on Rai 5, then in Aterballetto and La Toscanini channels

“The COVID-19 health emergency has shown us that there is no longer an I, but only a WE.”

After the success of 1 meter CLOSER, Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto has decided to keep on exploring the world of ‘screendance’, this time involving other important institutions of the Emilia-Romagna Region. Together with Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini in Parma, with the support of Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia and in partnership with Ravenna Festival, a new “remote creation” was created.

The Other Side, dance and music video-creation, premieres on Rai 5 on June 25, 2020, at 09:15 p.m., and then will be available on Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto and La Toscanini web sites and social channels.

The choreography was entrusted to choreographer and dancer of the company Saul Daniele Ardillo, joined by dramaturg Simone Giorgi, writer published by Einaudi and author of the dramaturgy of Aterballetto children’s performance La stella nascosta.

Each dancer feels in the (imaginary) next room the presence of an unknown musician playing on the other side of the wall. That music breaks into his/her loneliness and drag him/her towards a dance that becomes deep communication, that puts him/her in a deep relationship with all the other dancers.

The dancers of Aterballetto and the trio of the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini – Mihaela Costea, violin, Pietro Nappi, cello, Orazio Sciortino, piano – do not meet in reality: they were filmed by filmmaker Valeria Civardi performing, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven, scores of the music genius who most of all has experienced the physical sense of the limit, and has overcome it.

The programme also includes a premiere of the unpublished music by composer in residence of La Toscanini, Fabio Massimo Capogrosso. His music, especially commissioned, goes well with a work of contemporary art in the last part of the choreography: it is Love, a large painting, exposed in the rooms of the Maramotti Collection, created in 2017 by Luisa Rabbia, an artist who reflects on the existential condition, on the connection between human beings and the environment surrounding them.
