Greece – The Roads of Friendship – Ravenna-Athens

On July 9th, at the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, the concert the Maestro Muti will conduct also in Ravenna

The Roads of Friendship is a ‘lay pilgrimage’ touching on cities wounded by war and re-establishing ancient ties to places that have made history in order to build ‘bridges of brotherhood’ through art and culture.
Since 1997, the year of the first historic concert in Sarajevo, Maestro Riccardo Muti has led these paths as a cultural ambassador to the world.

The conventional appointment of the Ravenna Festival -this year at the 30th edition and entitled “on the high and open sea” (Inferno XXVI, 100)- lands in Greece, in a journey back to the roots of Western civilization, among that people who, after years of hardships and struggles, are now gracefully taking control of their own destiny.

And just in the heart of the ancient Acropolis of Athens, in the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, on July 9th Riccardo Muti will conduct the Symphony no. 9 in D minor for solos, choir, and orchestra op. 125 by Ludwig van Beethoven, the anthem of Europe and a true hymn to brotherhood.

The Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra, the Athens State Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the ERT National Symphony Orchestra, together with the Choirs Costanzo Porta, ERT National Choir, and Choir of the Municipality of Athens accompany soprano Maria Mudryak, mezzo-soprano Anastasia Boldyreva, tenor Luciano Ganci, and bass Evgeny Stavinsky in the concert that will take place also in Ravenna on July 11th, within the Festival that received a plaque by the President of Italy for the second year.

The concert has been organized thanks to the co-operation and support by Embassy of Italy and Italian Cultural Institute in Athens, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, Emilia-Romagna Region Culture Dept.

The event is part of "Tempo Forte Italia- Eλλάδα 2019", a programme by the Embassy of Italy in Athens and the Dept for Performing Arts of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, along with cultural institutions, foundations, museums, artists and friends of culture from Greece and Italy, aiming at bringing "more Italy to Greece and more Greece to Italy".

Also the show by Romeo Castellucci La Vita nuova and the performances by Aterballetto programmed within the Athens & Epidaurus Festival are part of “Tempo Forte Italia-Grecia 2019”.
