China – “MDLSX” by Motus theatre company
After more than two hundred performances, the half of which abroad in important theatre and international festivals around the world, MDLSX -the show “hymn to freedom, to being and becoming other than the body”- keeps on being successfully staged.
Now it is presented by Motus and Silvia Calderoni at the Hong Kong International Black Box Festival, where the show is on stage from the 17th to the 21st of October.
Here is the presentation curated by the Festival of a show defined “explosive”.
«When identity and gender definitions are stripped away, who do you see? In a partly autobiographical 80-minute monologue, Premio Ubu-winner Silvia Calderoni peels away layers of scientific and historical convention and challenges the audience to re-imagine individual identity beyond the definitions of binary gender.
Combining her own androgynous physicality with texts based on personal, researched and fictional experience, projected home movies, interviews and a powerful soundtrack, DJ-ed “live”, Calderoni presents a visceral and delicately balanced depiction of the violence, bewilderment and emotional unravelling of an individual trapped in an imposed identity, and a journey towards authenticity and self-acceptance.
A wild, charismatic performance that will take your breath away».
A talk with the artists is moreover programmed on October 17th, after the show.
