The new VIDEODANTE project by Instabili Vaganti takes the “Sommo Poeta” to Chile
Instabili Vaganti theatre company marks a new stage in its research on new multimedia languages applied to theatre and performing arts – a path undertaken with the Beyond Borders international project, which boasts remote collaborations with artists from all over the world.
The new web performance series “VideoDante # Chile” complements the previous series on the universe of the Divine Comedy which involved artists from Spain, India, and Indonesia.
The series was developed remotely through meetings and creative work sessions between Instabili Vaganti –director Anna Dora Dorno and performer Nicola Pianzola, and Chilean actor Claudio Santana Bórquez, founder of the Performer Persona Project company. The shared exploration of Dante’s universe led to the creation of three video-works, inspired by the cantos of Inferno.
The "journey" is the leitmotiv theme of the trilogy – an element at the heart of the Divine Comedy and that inspired Dante so much. A journey that is sometimes impossible and which today, in light of the events upsetting our contemporary history, is increasingly difficult to make. From this tension to cross the limit, the border, to see what is on the other side of an ocean, derives the exploration of some mythological figures and references present in Dante’s work – from Icarus to Geryon, to the hero of “the mad flight”, Ulysses.
From Dante's places in Emilia-Romagna, the viewer is ferried to the Chilean coasts of Valparaíso, on a dreamlike and imaginative journey that takes Dante "Beyond Borders".
The Italian Cultural Institute in Santiago de Chile promotes and supports the project together with the Consulta degli emiliano-romagnoli nel mondo / Assemblea legislativa Regione Emilia-Romagna.
The trailer and the first episode – Icarus, released on May 12 – are available on the Italian Cultural Institute’s and Instabili Vaganti’s social media channels. The next ones will be available from May 19 (The Beast) and from May 26 (Ulysses).
Following the release of the last episode, on May 26, final talk with the artists live streamed from Santiago (at 18:00, local time, still available on the Company's and the Institute's social channels).
It will be moderated by Giulio Ferretto Salinas, Professor at the University of Playa Ancha and supervisor of the project, and attended by: director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Santiago Cristina Di Giorgio, responsible for cultural programme of the Institute Paula Bell, Instabili Vaganti’s director Anna Dora Dorno, performer Nicola Pianzola and composer Riccardo Nanni, and the Chilean artists involved in the web performance series –performer Claudio Santana Bórquez and video maker Andrés Hernández Hidalgo.
