UK Premiere of Dewey Dell’s latest creation "Le Sacre du Printemps"
The Gulbenkian Arts Centre of the University of Kent hosts the UK Premiere of Dewy Dell’s latest creation, Le Sacre du Printemps, in a programme that also features a celebrated earlier work, Deriva Traversa.
The Gulbenkian declares itself “excited” not only to host the international debut of the performance but also to welcome an “extraordinary” contemporary dance company renowned internationally for their experimental and interdisciplinary approach, but rarely seen in the United Kingdom.
Dewey Dell’s Rite of Spring combines dance with other arts, such as cinema, literature, photography, digital creations, in a unique take on Stravinsky’s classic which turns its gaze to the animal and plant world, where death is part of the fecundation and regeneration process.
Deriva Traversa gathers the legacy of an ancient profession, that of the shepherd, to explore the theme of loneliness – that is peculiar to the lives of those who undertake this work. The solo represents a universe slowed down and inhabited by singing, a landscape that envelops and separates from everyday life.
In Canterbury, the two choreographies are staged one after the other on the evenings of 28 and 29 September, and the audience will have the opportunity to meet the company in a Q&A after the show on the 28th.
Moreover, in the previous days (September 26), Dewey Dell conducts a workshop for the students of the Theatre department of the University of Kent, of which the Gulbenkian Arts Centre is part.
The tour has the support of Emilia-Romagna Region and ATER Fondazione. The Italian Cultural Institute co-operates as media partner.
