Ukraine – “The Centenary. Fellini in the World”
The celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Fellini’s birth are going on in 2021 and are underway in Kiev where the itinerant exhibition The Centenary. Fellini in the World opened on June 5.
The Ukrainian stage of the exhibition conceived and curated by Vincenzo Mollica and Alessandro Nicosia on the occasion of Fellini’s anniversary presents an enriched and extended version – with unpublished photographs and original drawings never yet seen out of Italy – made thanks to the co-operation among the Museum of Cinema of Kiev, the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Kiev, and the Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival.
“We want to celebrate both the centenary of the birth of the great Maestro and the 50th anniversary of the international film festival of Kiev Molodist”, Ambassador of Italy in Ukraine Pier Francesco Zazo declared, reminding, by the way, that the Festival programme included La Fellinette, animated short film by the director’s nephew Francesca Fabbri Fellini, who was in Kiev on the occasion.
La Fellinette, written and directed by Francesca Fabbri Fellini and made with the support of the Emilia-Romagna Film Fund, was scheduled in the “International Competition” section of the Molodist KIFF.
Born from a drawing “uncle Federico” left her as a gift when she was a child, the film is a suggestive and evocative tale in which live action shooting and animated parts let us live the memories, the emotions, the dreams of the young girl on Rimini beach in winter with the same fantasy and lightness she has, and the performs by ‘visionary’ actors as Milena Vukotic, Ivano Marescotti, and Bustric let us plunge into setting beloved by Fellini himself.
On June 4th the director’s nephew attended the preview of The Centenary. Fellini in the World reserved to authorities and representatives of the Ukrainian cultural world.
The exhibition is set in the Museum of Cinema, Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre and will run until July 25.
