Colombia – Andrea Griminelli in concert

On July 2nd, the renowned flutist is guest of the Cartagena Music Festival

This year the 15th international Music Festival of Cartagena de Indias, taking place from June 30 to July 5, is dedicated to “Il Bel Canto”.

The programme retraces three centuries of the history of Italian opera with concerts, recitals with orchestra, and conference-concerts featuring some of the best of Colombian and Italian talents.

The “Serie Oro Davivienda” is a section of the programme the Cartagena Music Festival traditionally dedicates to chamber music: it includes the concert by Andrea Griminelli Arias y fantasías de cámara del siglo XIX, on July 2nd, at the Teatro Adolfo Mejía.

The renowned flutist is one of the major representatives of Emilia-Romagna music tradition: his sensitive interpretations and astonishing technique have earned him prestigious collaborations with great artists (starting from his international debut performing with Luciano Pavarotti, at the age of 25) and important recognitions in Italy and abroad, beside the acclaim by critics and audiences the world over.

The artis renews his well-established participation in the Cartagena Music Festival with the concert Arias y fantasías de cámara del siglo XIX, performing music by Gioachino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini, Gaetano Donizetti.

Andrea Griminelli’s flute will be accompanied by Raffaele Cortesi’s piano and by the voices of sopranos Eliana Piedrahita, Marta Torbidoni and María Paula Gómez and mezzo-sopranos Elisa Bonazzi and Paola Leguizamón.

In 2021, the Cartagena Music Festival has been inevitably re-scheduled with a reduced and blended version that includes live, televised and streamed concerts.
The opening event on June 24 was a homage from Italy, and from Emilia-Romagna, in particular: the streamed concert of the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna conducted by Michele Mariotti, which performed music by Rossini, Dvorak, and Brahms.

It is the start of a co-operation that will be strengthened in the next edition of the Festival, scheduled for January 2022: thanks to the support by Emilia-Romagna Region, the Cartagena Music Festival and the Teatro Comunale di Bologna will celebrate together Rossini, to whom the 16th edition is dedicated.
