New international stages of the exhibition on Italian young illustrators
Italian Excellence. The New Generation of Italian Children's Illustrators –the exhibition organized by Bologna Children’s Book Fair, Emilia-Romagna Region and Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), and curated by Giannino Stoppani Cooperativa Culturale /Accademia Drosselmeier– continues its journey around the world.
The works by the twenty young illustrators (aged between 23 and 35) chosen among the most promising and for their ability to tell, to communicate emotions, magic, poetry, are now on display in Cologne, Germany, in Guanajuato, Mexico, and in São Paulo, Brazil, thanks to the Italian Cultural Institutes that share the project to enhance this fascinating "contemporary art" by presenting it in important contexts and organizing related activities.
The stage in Guanajuato has a special relevance. Here the exhibition is presented by the Italian Cultural Institute in Mexico City in the frame of “Rumbo al Cervantino 50”, the events organized by the State of Guanajuato to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the world-famous international Festival (that will take place in October).
It is hosted by the Museo Palacio de los Poderes until May 29 and was opened on April 29 in the presence of the Director of the Instituto Estatal de la Cultura (IEC) Adriana Camarena De Obeso, Director of the IEC Museums Arturo López Rodriguez, and communication manager Luis Meza Negrete. This new prestigious context is added to the equally prestigious ones of the exhibition's previous Mexican stages at the International Book Fairs of Coahuila and Guadalajara.
In Cologne, the exhibition is hosted by the Italian Cultural Institute, open from April 27 until June 10.
The Institute will also host Veronica Truttero –one of the artists on display– for two up-close encounters: "Dialogue between illustrators. Claus Daniel Herrmann meets Veronica Truttero”, a meeting organized in co-operation with the Schmitz-Lippert-Stiftung im Cöln Comic Haus and German illustrator Leo Leowald, and the comics workshop "Un sogno a fumetti", by her conceived and made. Taking inspiration from the books "Controcorrente" and "Doppio passo" by Alice Keller, that she illustrated, the author will invite children to tell their dreams, their challenges, through a comic story, suggesting a technique to overcome the fear of the white sheet and plunge into the realization of their own story armed with pencil and eraser.
Also in São Paulo, it's the Italian Cultural Institute to host the exhibition, opened on May 12 and running until 8 July.
Bologna Children’s Book Fair exhibition manager Elena Pasoli and responsible for the Fair events and exhibition area Deanna Belluti attended the opening together with illustrator Andrea Antinori –another among the “Excellences” on display. And to broaden the reflection on illustration, the Italian Cultural Institute in São Paulo and the Instituto Emília, partner of the initiative, organized the seminar "Educação estética e leitura de imagens", which was attended, in addition to the Italian guests, by Brazilian illustrators Fernando Vilela, Elisa Carareto and Mariana Zanetti. A workshop for children curated by Andrea Antinori was also scheduled.
New tours are in the works for the Italian Excellence project, awaited soon in China for a fourth stage in the country as part of the 2022 Italy-China Year of Culture and Tourism initiatives.
