Icarus Ensemble on tour in Spain

The concert “Reimagining the Ancient” in Vitoria-Gasteiz on February 1st and in Bilbao on February 3rd.

Icarus Ensemble performs at the festival “Bernaola Zikloa 24—25 - XXI Ciclo Internacional de Música Contemporánea” in Vitoria-Gasteiz and at the “31st Contemporary Music Encounters” in Bilbao, the season of concerts organised by Ensemble Kuraia.

The programme Icarus Ensemble presents in both events has the title: Reimagining the Ancient, and is largely derived from an album released in 2022 on the Japanese label Da Vinci Classic, entitled Contemporary Book, that investigates the presence of the past, and thus of history, in today's musical production. Icarus does this by commissioning different composers, with different languages and backgrounds, to write a series of works that are in some way inspired by or derived from ancient music.

The programme includes works by Gabrio Taglietti, Giuseppe Colardo, Paolo Rotili, Salvatore Sciarrino, Luigi Manfrin, Luigi Abbate, Nicola Strafellini.

Icarus will be in in Vitoria-Gasteiz on February 1st (7:30 pm) at the Conservatorio de Música Jesús Guridi and in Bilbao on February 3rd (7 pm) at the Conservatorio “J. C. Arriaga”.

The concerts are preceded by meetings with students from the conservatories of the host cities in which director of Icarus Ensemble Marco Pedrazzini will illustrate the recording project and dialogue with the audience together with director of the Basque ensemble Kuraia Andrea Cazzaniga, serving as moderator.

The tour is supported by Emilia-Romagna Region and ATER Fondazione.
