MaMiMò for the 19th Week of the Italian Language in the World
Il Bel Paese - The Italian Language between Comedy and Tragedy is the show proposed by MaMiMò theatre company for the 19th Week of the Italian Language in the World, whose theme is “Italian language on the stage”.
And the story narrated in the performance is about the Italian language, its cultural and linguistic contamination, the use of 'Tragedy' and 'Comedy' as two different ways to describe life.
The narration of the long adventure of Italian -the language of a “crossroads-land”- begins in 1300 with Dante Alighieri to end nowadays with Emanuele Aldrovandi, one of the youngest and most established contemporary playwrights.
The performance goes through the pages by some of the most representative Italian playwrights, as Goldoni, Alfieri, Pirandello, Carmelo Bene, and Pasolini, and there is also a foray into Giuseppe Verdi's melodrama.
Il Bel Paese is staged within the events of the 19th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World organized by the Italian Cultural Institutes of Addis Ababa and Pretoria.
The appointments are at the Giuseppe Verdi Auditorium in Addis Ababa on October 25th, within the Forum Ambrosetti - European House in Pretoria on October 28th, and at the Italian Club in Durban on October 31st.
The performance is also part of the events of the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation cultural programme “Italia, Culture, Africa”.
