OperaStreaming – "Aroldo" by Giuseppe Verdi
OperaStreaming – the virtual stage of operas from the theatres of Emilia-Romagna – presents Aroldo by Giuseppe Verdi broadcasted from the Teatro Galli in Rimini, where the opera premiered on 16 August 1857, on the occasion of the inauguration of the same Teatro Galli.
The live streaming is on August 27, at 09:00 pm CET, then it will be available online on the platform for six months.
Aroldo is the only opera by Verdi to have made its debut in the composer’s native Emilia-Romagna region, and the only opera written expressly for the inauguration of a new theatre in Italy.
A tale of adultery, honour and reconciliation, Aroldo is rarely performed. The new production curated by directors Emilio Sala and Edoardo Sanchi complements Verdi’s tale with the story of Rimini and its theatre, that has recently been restored to its original splendour and reopened after 75 years closed, following extensive damage during the Second World War.
This ‘new’ Aroldo, with a modern-day retelling, is a coproduction by Teatro Galli di Rimini, Teatro Alighieri di Ravenna, Teatro Comunale di Modena, and Teatro Municipale di Piacenza. Important artists from Emilia-Romagna have been involved, starting from conductor Manlio Benzi on the podium of the Luigi Cherubini Orchestra and the Chorus of the Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, and set designer Edoardo Sanchi, in charge of the direction and the dramaturgy together with Emilio Sala.
