Cezc Republic – Exhibition "Buratto, fili, bastoni"
From May 20 to July 9 the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague host the exhibition “Buratto, fili, bastoni” that presents, for the first time in Prague, one of the world's leading collections of marionettes and puppets: the Zanella/Pasqualini collection from the Puppets Museum of Budrio (Bologna).
On display a selection of over one hundred pieces from the historic collection: not only puppets, marionettes and pupi marionettes by the main dynasties of Italian puppeteers, but also sceneries and backdrops, precious small theatres, stage props and much more. Thanks to Vittorio Zanella's and Rita Pasqualini’s availability, you will be able to admire everything that once served the puppeteer to do his job and bring stories, tales, fantasy and fun to the public.
The pieces on display describe over four centuries of history. The exhibition aims to tell the fascination of marionettes and puppets not only as complex – sometimes grotesque – mirrors of the human or as simple means of entertainment, but above all as high craftsmanship works, as true works of art made of a valuable mix of sculpture, painting, tailoring and architecture.
The exhibition itinerary celebrates the close connection between all the arts that the world of Puppet Theatre produces. It has been conceived in close dialogue with the popular aspects of this ancient and modern artistic expression transcending time, where the staging was a source of inspiration to cross the problems each historical period placed at the centre of everyday life.
On the occasion of the opening, on May 20 at 6:30 pm, Vittorio Zanella presents his show Mi rendo conto (I realize). Puppets and marionettes will guide the audience to the discovery of their world and the stories of which they were and are protagonists, from the tradition of the Commedia dell’Arte to the experiments of the 20th century.
The exhibition is organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague and has the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Prague.
The show on May 20 and the following ones that will be proposed during the exhibition are organised with the collaboration of Emilia-Romagna Region and ATER Fondazione.
