“Giorgio Morandi”: a large solo exhibition in Shanghai

Presented on occasion of the Italy-China Year of Culture and Tourism and running until October 9. The Museo Morandi among the lenders of the works

On the occasion of the 2022 Italy-China Year of Culture and Tourism, the Jiushi Art Museum in Shanghai hosts the exhibition Giorgio Morandi, a large solo exhibition of the artist's works organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai and the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, in association with the Jiushi Art Museum. Opened on July 9, the exhibition will run to October 9.

Curated by art historian Stefano Zuffi, and co-curated by Felix Ma of the Jiushi Art Museum, the exhibition displays 51 works, including 39 oil paintings, 6 etchings, 4 watercolours, and 2 sketches.
It is chronologically divided into three sections that trace Morandi’s artistic career: the beginnings (from the 1910s to the 1920s), maturity (from the 1930s to the 1940s), last years (from the 1950s to the 1960s).

The works are on loan from important public and private collections: the Museo Morandi of Bologna, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, the Fondazione Giovanardi, and IMAGO Art Gallery.
On the occasion, the Museo Morandi of Bologna has lent 14 works: seven paintings and seven etchings.
