China – Castellucci opens the Great Theatre of China’s season
Romeo Castellucci is internationally recognized as the author of a theatre in which dramaturgy overturns literature and which aims at realizing a total perception of the drama by involving different arts and in particular by using an amazing richness from the figurative point of view.
On 20th and 21st July the performance On the concept of the face, regarding the Son of God is staged in Shanghai at the Great Theatre of China as inaugural show of the season.
In the performance, a detail of the picture by Antonello da Messina “Salvator Mundi” is the stage background. It is the Ecce Homo icon, in which the son of God is shown as a suffering man, in agony, stripped of his divine aura. Christ’s glance is no longer that of the Son of God but the one of a man wondering about the inevitableness of his destiny, like the men on stage and the spectators wonder about the misery of life.
To share the essence of Castellucci’s message, his assistant director Silvano Voltolina will meet the audience on July 21.
The events are supported by the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai.
