Teatro Regio di Parma and I Teatri di Reggio Emilia on OperaVision

“Tosca” by Puccini streamed from May 31. The double bill “Alfred, Alfred” by Franco Donatoni and “La serva padrona” by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi available until November.

Two productions by the Opera Houses of Emilia-Romagna are proposed at the end of May on OperaVision, the free streaming platform supported by the European Union’s ‘Creative Europe’ programme.

Tosca, opera in three acts to a libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, is the closing title of the 2024 opera season of the Teatro Regio of Parma, a tribute to Giacomo Puccini in the year of the centenary of his death.
The intertwining of politics, art, religion lives in a minimalist setting originally conceived by Alberto Fassini, which Joseph Franconi Lee, his assistant for over twenty years, takes up by emphasizing the sense of love and honesty of Tosca’s art and sacrifice. Daniel Oren conducts the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini.

Tosca is streamed on May 31 (at 19h00 CET) and will be available until December 01, 2024.

The double bill Alfred, Alfred by Franco Donatoni and La serva padrona by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi is a new production by Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia for the 2024 Opera Season.
This unusual pairing conceived by Muta Imago sets theatrical farce in intimate spaces. Alfred, Alfred comes from the experience in hospital of its composer, Franco Donatoni, in 1992: a journey suspended between the surreal intimate visions of a patient and the reality of hospital life. Written three centuries earlier, Pergolesi’s La serva padrona offers a picture of domestic antics, where a shrewd maid outwits her grumpy master into marrying her. Dario Garegnani conducts Icarus Ensemble, the direction is by Claudia Sorace.

The opera – live streamed on May 26, is available on the platform until November 26.

As usual, OperaVision offers insights into the stories, the authors, the ‘behind the scenes’.
