Hungary – The European premiere of "Album" by Kepler-452 theatre company
In May 2022, the Bologna based Kepler-452 theatre company won one of the twelve production calls promoted by the European project Stronger Peripheries: A Southern Coalition, supported by Creative Europe, whose partners include L'arboreto - Teatro Dimora di Mondaino – active centre for artistic residencies supported by Emilia-Romagna Region.
Kepler-452’s new work Album is the third of twelve international productions to be made and co-produced by productiont tandems between the project partners. The production tandem that led to the creation of the performance involves Pergine Spettacolo Aperto, Pergine (IT); ProProgressione, Budapest (HU); L'arboreto - Teatro Dimora, Mondaino (IT).
After a path of residencies between Italy and Hungary, Album premiered in Italy last July at the Pergine Spettacolo Aperto festival and now, thanks to ProProgressione, makes its European debut in Budapest.
Memory and forgetfulness are the key-words that motivated Kepler-452’s Album, a show that meets with memory and its fading: physiologically, when old age and degenerative pathologies affect it; materially, when a catastrophe, like a flood, drags in a wave of grey mud a life’s objects; social, when the loss of memory is the removal of what we were, and mirror the impossibility of imagining what we could be.
Experimenting with a non-frontal spatiality, with devices and forms of direct and audiovisual projection, the company composes the performance collecting stories and images from various parts of Italy and Europe, meeting people and communities.
This new work consolidates Kepler-452's artistic investigation into the everyday, their way of understanding theatre as a place to question reality, in which to bring pieces of reality, taking it apart to try to decode it, to be able to see it more closely.
Album is on stage on September 14 at the Bethlen Téri Színház Theater in Budapest. Two performances are scheduled: at 6:30 pm and at 8:30 pm.
