The Orchestra del Baraccano in Poland and Czech Republic
The Orchestra del Baraccano is on tour abroad for the first time, and takes the music by famous Bolognese composer Ottorino Respighi to Warsaw and Prague.
The concert RESPIGHI SUITE - Antiche arie e danze per liuto arranged for ensemble will be performed at the Wielka Hall of the Royal Castle in Warsaw on August 10 (7 pm) and at the Baroque Chapel of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague the next day, August 11 (7 pm).
The Antiche arie e danze per liuto are a collection of free transcriptions of lute pieces from the 16th and 17th centuries, created by Ottorino Respighi and arranged in three suites for different orchestral ensembles. Respighi created the Suite No.1 in 1917, the Suite No.2 in 1923, and the Suite No.3 in 1931. His wife Elsa collected and rearranged them all in 1937.
In the Orchestra del Baraccano’s original arrangement, the eight real parts that make up the ensemble try to reproduce all the orchestral colours Respighi thought up, with the intention of creating a fascinating synthesis between ensuring the presence of instruments that were fundamental to Respighi, such as harp and harpsichord, and seeking a new and modern sound with the inclusion of accordion and tuba bass.
The Orchestra del Baraccano directed by Giambattista Giocoli was born in 2013 within the activities of the Teatro del Baraccano in Bologna, where a production and research project on chamber music theatre is carried out. The goal of the Orchestra is to play musical works originally composed for large orchestras with chamber ensembles, producing new scores played "in real parts".
In 2021 the Orchestra created a project dedicated to Ottorino Respighi and now takes his music beyond the national borders, with the purpose of spreading his art and making his figure better known.
The tour is made with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Warsaw and the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague.
