China – Pippo Delbono at Modern Drama Valley international festival

The performance “Joy” on stage in Shanghai from May 5 to 7

After years of waiting since the 2020 cancellation, Pippo Delbono is guest in Shanghai of the Modern Drama Valley international festival, a great annual event that celebrates theatre in all its forms.

The festival, which opened on April 30 and continues until May 8, is a "theatrical extravaganza" that takes place throughout the city, offering performances not only in the main theatres and cultural spaces but also in the streets, in commercial centres and other public areas, so that theatre might be within everyone's reach.

Pippo Delbono will be on stage with his performance Joy, in which this feeling is outlined as an emotion that is discovered after experiencing extreme feelings, from pain to happiness. Joy is celebrated in all its fragility and evanescence: the cascades of flowers, the dazzling images, the magical costumes, the music and dance compose a performance full of poetry but also of rage and humour.

The show, produced by ERT - Emilia Romagna Teatro / Teatro Nazionale in coproduction with Théâtre de Liège (Belgium) and Le Manège Maubeuge (France), made its debut in Bologna in March 2018 and has since had 139 performances in 58 cities in 17 countries around the world, continuing to enjoy great success with critics and audiences.

This creation by Pippo Delbono was guest of prestigious international festivals such as the Hong Kong Arts Festival (China), the Santiago a Mil (Chile), the ITA - International Theatre Amsterdam (The Netherland), the Temporada Alta in Girona (Spain), the IKSV Istanbul Theatre Festival (Turkey), the Theatre Olympics 2018 in India.
Now it can be on stage in Shanghai at last, where the Modern Drama Valley festival presents it in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute.

Joy is scheduled on May 5 and 6 at 7pm and on May 7 at 2pm at the Yun Feng Theatre.

The tour has the support of the Ministry of Culture (MiC), the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, and the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai.
