Instabili Vaganti on tour in Spain, Argentina, Brazil
Rags of Memory is a project by Instabili Vaganti theatre company supported by the ‘Consulta degli Emiliano-Romagnoli nel Mondo’ and carried out in collaboration with the associations of Emiliano-Romagnoli nel Mondo in Madrid (Spain), Mar del Plata (Argentina), Bellinzona (Switzerland), and São Paulo (Brazil). A journey across continents that brings to the stage themes of memory, identity, and culture through a different range of artistic languages, an ever-evolving research that blends tradition with innovation, addressing memory as a fundamental element of human identity.
Following its first step in Switzerland, in March the international tour stops in Spain before crossing the ocean to Argentina and Brazil. The programme of activities includes a performative presentation of the book Rags of memory, a practical workshop, and the performance Lockdown Memory.
In Spain, on March 12 in Madrid, the company presents – through video excerpts and readings – the book Rags of memory. Published by Cue Press, the book retraces the journey through space and time undertaken by Instabili Vaganti over twelve years, a long artistic period told with work diaries, theoretical essays, testimonies from the international performers who participated in the project.
From March 14 to 16, the tour continues in Argentina, in Mar Del Plata. Here the company will direct the workshop Harapos de la memoria. Through physical and vocal training, participants will be guided in a creative process to rediscover and reinterpret both personal and collective memory. They will generate scenic actions, texts, and artistic reflections on crucial themes such as cultural identity, migration, and borders. Moreover, some will be involved in the creation of the theatrical production that will premiere in Italy at the PerformAzioni International Festival (August 18 - September 7, 2025), before returning to Argentina for a tour in December.
The following stage in Brazil includes three events: book presentation in Rio de Janeiro on March 19, workshop in Mogi Mirim on March 23, staging of the performance Lockdown Memory in Sao Paulo on March 25, hosted by the Teatro Itália.
This performance is also part of the Rags of memory project, reflecting on the historical period of the pandemic and its personal and social repercussions. The piece recalls the isolation imposed by lockdowns and offers audiences a mosaic of lived experiences from the artists involved, also giving voice to the complex social realities faced in various countries.
