OperaStreaming for Israel

Three operas from the portal of Emilia- Romagna opera houses broadcasted for free by the Italian Cultural Institutes in Tel Aviv and Haifa. From November 22 to January 14

From November 22, three operas from Emilia-Romagna opera houses will arrive in Israelis' homes, on their TV screens, smartphones, and tablets.

It is an initiative created by the Italian Cultural Institutes in Tel Aviv and Haifa thanks to the co-operation with the OperaStreaming platform – the pioneering project by Emilia-Romagna Region and its opera houses born in 2019 which now, with more than one million and 600 thousand views, is followed by enthusiasts from all over the world.

“Opera is inclusive thanks to music, the universal language that unites beyond any barrier”, declares Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv Maria Sica who, interviewed by the Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino, tells how, after having suspended many in-person activities due to the war, they arrived at the OperaStreaming portal, finding great co-operation.

“Opera tells about feelings, affections, and emotions through singing, which is the antithesis of the scream and roar marking these painful days", she continues. “The communication taking place through music is able to express closeness and empathy towards others in a particular way. I am really grateful to Operastreaming which allows us to affirm, once again, that culture is not something that simply completes our lives".

From November 22 to January 14, every two weeks, the Italian Cultural Institutes in Tel Aviv and Haifa will publish on their sites and spread through their newsletters the link to the operas on the OperaStreaming platform. The Tel Aviv and Haifa Cinematheques also share the communication project.

The scheduled operas are:
Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera, filmed at the Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia (from November 22)
Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, recorded at the Teatro Comunale 'Claudio Abbado' in Ferrara (from December 6)
Puccini’s La Bohème, staged at the Teatro Comunale 'Pavarotti-Freni' in Modena (from December 20).
