France – Teatro Gioco Vita at the Festival International de Marionnettes de Belfort
From February 21 to March 4 the city of Belfort becomes the stage of puppetry in all its forms with the traditional International Festival organised by the Théâtre de Marionnettes de Belfort, one of the rare permanent theatres dedicated to puppetry in France.
The programme of this edition offers shows, workshops, exhibitions and “moments of wonder with artists from the four corners of the world”.
Teatro Gioco Vita attends with the show Le plus malin, the French version of The Smartest One. The misadventures of an incorrigible wolf.
Based on the work by Mario Ramos, acclaimed author of illustrated books for children –, the show is a happy mix of lightness and irony, that makes both young people and adults laugh and think.
It might sound like the well-known fairy-tale Little Red Ridding Hood, but the wolf of this story is clumsy and gauche – despite having presumptuously claimed “I am the strongest, the most handsome and the smartest one” –, and its misadventures, in which we all can identify ourselves, make us laugh.
There is just one actor/narrator on stage who, thanks to Teatro Gioco Vita’s repertoire of shadow techniques and a highly choreographic quality of movement, plays all the characters in the story.
Two performances of The Smartest One are scheduled at the Théâtre Louis Jouvet on February 24, at 2:30 pm and at 4:30 pm.
