OperaStreaming – "L’Orfeo" by Claudio Monteverdi
OperaStreaming returns to the Alighieri Theatre in Ravenna: on Saturday, November 6, at 08:30 pm CET, on the platform YouTube channel, live streaming of L’Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi in a new co-production by Teatro Alighieri di Ravenna and Teatro Comunale di Ferrara.
The universal myth of the musician on the trail of his beloved is entrusted to the masterly direction by Pier Luigi Pizzi, who also cures the set design and the costumes, and to the musical subtlety by Accademia Bizantina conducted by Ottavio Dantone, recently voted second best orchestra in the world at the Gramophone Awards.
On an enlarged stage where the orchestra shares the space with the singers and the choir – and therefore music is always and literally the protagonist on the scene –, joy and pain are contiguous: the underworld is a chasm just one step away, a precipice ready to swallow Orpheus’ “perduto bene”.
Monteverdi’s Orfeo is “a datum point for those who continue to believe in the cultural and spiritual value of this musical genre”, Pier Luigi Pizzi underlines.
“Monteverdi is an insuperable master in the practice of affections”, reminds Ottavio Dantone. “His skill in using rhetorical codes is impressive, but he is also able to break the rules of rhetoric and poetics when he wants to achieve more intense emotional results”.
After the live streaming on November 6, the opera will be available on OperaStreaming for six months.
