France – “Federico and Marcello” at the Rencontres du cinéma italien de Toulouse

From November 26 to December 5, the exhibition curated by the Centro Cinema Cesena

The Rencontres du cinéma italien de Toulouse pays homage to Federico Fellini with an exhibition that should have been set up last year on the occasion of the centenary of Fellini’s birth but that could not take place – like the festival itself – due to the pandemic.

The exhibition curated by director of the Centro Cinema di Cesena Antonio Maraldi for this 17th edition of the Rencontres is a selection of images from the larger exposition Federico Fellini’s ‘8 ½’ in the unpublished photographs by Paul Ronald – one of the three exhibitions dedicated to Fellini made by Centro Cinema Cesena and Region Emilia-Romagna on the anniversary, included in the official programme of the Italian National Committee for the Celebration –‘Fellini 100’, and presented with different titles and formats in more than thirty Countries around the world.

The exhibition Federico and Marcello focuses on the two big ‘protagonists’. As Paul Ronald tells, «there was a great understanding between Federico and Marcello. During the pauses, between one scene and another, from time to time they withdrew, sometimes chatting or joking, other times being close and in silence. From a photographic point of view, I've always liked those silences».

Ronald’s vision was able to catch those moments, and beside giving us back the atmosphere and the work on the set, his wonderful and precious images tell us that deep friendship and artistic collaboration.
