Teatro Nucleo in Argentina and Uruguay
In November, Teatro Nucleo is in Argentina and Uruguay, engaged in various activities in Buenos Aires, Santiago del Estero, San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, and Montevideo – activities that are also connected to the fiftieth anniversary of its birth.
The staging of Kashimashi at the Festival de Teatro Independiente de la Comuna 15 of Buenos Aires opened the tour (November 8).
It is a show by and with Natasha Czertok that revolves around gender stereotypes. «The stereotypes I identified as models, characters I face in the show, it's as if they were many solitudes, many sides of the same woman», explains the actress and director, who, with a good dose of self-irony, insinuates into the dynamics linked to what we usually define as "normality".
The performance is on stage in Argentina also in San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca (November 16) and later in Uruguay, in Montevideo, presented by the Italian Cultural Institute on occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 26).
The performance in Montevideo is part of ‘The Optimism of Practice’, a cycle of meetings, workshops and seminars aimed at learning about Teatro Nucleo's work in mental health, fifty years after its birth.
It is the second part of the project "Theatre and cinema at the service of mental health between Emilia-Romagna and Argentina”, launched with the aim of highlighting the important role played by theatre and cinema in the Emilia-Romagna region in the context of the ‘Psichiatria Democratica’ movement that led to the famous ‘Basaglia Law’ in the 1970s, which closed mental asylums and was imitated by many countries, Argentina included, for its strong message of openness and social transformation.
The program involves important institutions like the Universities of Buenos Aires, Santiago del Estero and Catamarca, as well as several study and research centres in the field of mental health and performing arts.
Activities include: the study seminar ‘Possible Trajectories between Art and Mental Health’, which takes place in Santiago del Estero (November 11-12), in San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca (November 15-17), and in Montevideo (November 27); the conference ‘Teatro Nucleo. 50 years of work between research, mental health and citizenship’ in Buenos Aires (November 20); the theatre practice workshop for social workers ‘A ojos abiertos’, directed by Natasha Czertok and Horacio Czertok, still in Buenos Aires (November 20-21).
The final event of ‘The Optimism of Practice’ is in Buenos Aires with the performance Contra Gigantes, the monologue by Horacio Czertok based on his famous and awarded street theatre show QUIJOTE! (November 29).
