Teatro dei Venti in Romania and Belgium

"Penthesilea" at the TESZT - Euroregional Theatre Festival in Timisoara. World premiere of "Don Quixote" at the Theater aan Twater festival in Boom.

Teatro dei Venti is starting a summer tour that will bring its ‘powerful’ street theatre shows to important Italian and European festivals. The tour begins with two stages abroad.

The first is the international festival TESZT - Euroregional Theatre Festival in Timisoara, where the company was also guest in the two previous editions. Here, Teatro dei Venti presents Penthesilea (May 21-22).

This ‘one-act play for two stilt walkers’ tells the duel between Achilles and the queen of the Amazons, a fight between warriors who come to desire the death of the other due to too much love.
The stage game unfolds through a continuous counterpoint of dynamic actions and sounds punctuated by two large medieval drums. The gallop, the assaults and escapes, the abandonments and furies follow one another impetuously until the great final silence.

The second stage is in Belgium, in Boom, at the Theater aan Twater international festival, great event dedicated to ‘street theatre, circus and spectacle’ now in its 17th edition. It is a very important appointment for Teatro dei Venti, as the festival hosts the world premiere of Don Quixote, their new production 2024 for urban spaces freely based on Cervantes’ masterpiece.

Reinterpreting Don Quixote today, through Teatro dei Venti’s poetics, highlights the possibility of continuing to act in the world in a choral way. What Don Quixote fights for, which is also reverberating in Sancho, is the possibility of not giving up, of not getting used to evil.
The performance’s dramaturgy does not chronologically follow the succession of events in the novel but combines a punctuation of different times and places to build a character portrait suitable for theatre in urban spaces. The story is told by a Narrator who, together with his assistant, will beat the time of the progression of the scenes and guide the spectators through the utopian journey of the two protagonists.

In both festivals, Teatro dei Venti organizes workshops for artists and meetings with the audience and professionals.

The tour in Romania and Belgium is made thanks to the co-operation and support of the Italian Cultural Institutes in Bucharest and in Brussels, Emilia-Romagna Region and ATER Fondazione.

Teatro dei Venti will be back in Romania in late June, guest of another prestigious event: the FITS - Sibiu International Theatre Festival, where they will introduce Don Quixote (June 29-30).
