Sweden – Special project on ‘The Trojan Women' by Motus

Swedish premiere of the triptych from Euripides and focus on the company’s work. In Stockholm, from October 3 to 7.

From October 3 to 7, in Stockholm, Motus theatre company is the protagonist of a special project curated by Turteatern, centre devoted to experimental performing arts, the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm, and the Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH).

The company presents Tutto Brucia (Everything Burns) – their rewriting of Euripides’ Trojan Women, and its two spin-off performances: You Were Nothing but Wind and Of The Nightingale I Envy The Fate.

It is the Swedish premiere of the shows and the second time the triptych is played in its entirety.

The most uncomfortable female figures of Greek tragedy are at the heart of these works: Hecuba, Cassandra, Polyxena, Helen, Andromache – archetypal figures, whose desperation for mourning and for their own adverse fate resonates like an echo in the present to give voice to today's victims. The whole project raises the highly political question of which bodies are worth mourning, but also of the possible emergence of a different world beyond the violence we are used to.

To introduce the theatre company and to offer the audience the opportunity to deepen Motus’ project on The Troyan Women, Turteatern, the IIC, and the SKH have organised various occasions of meeting and interaction with the artists, alternating with the performances of the three works.

Motus founders and artistic directors Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò will talk about the group's work and their aesthetic and artistic approach in a discussion that take place at the Italian Cultural Institute, moderated by Jon Refsdal Moe, Professor of Dramaturgy at the SKH (October 4, 5:30 pm).

Moreover, Daniela Nicolò and Enrico Casagrande will hold an open lecture at the SKH, in which they will illustrate the company’s history, productions, and working methods. They will be supported by Professor Refsdal Moe and by Synne Behrndt, Senior Lecturer in Performing Arts at SKH (October 7, 11 am).

Professor Synne Behrndt also attends an artist talk with the performers Stefania Tansini and Silvia Calderoni that takes place at Turteatern (October 6, 7:15 pm).

Still in Turteatern, the audience will also have the chance to mingle with Motus’ team in an opening reception (October 3, 7 pm) and in a post-performance party (October 4, 10:30 pm).

Two performances of each show are scheduled, as per this calendar:
Tutto Brucia on October 4 (9 pm) and October 5 (7 pm),
You Were Nothing but Wind on October 3 (6 pm) and October 6 (6 pm),
Of The Nightingale I Envy The Fate on October 6 (6 pm) and October 7 (7 pm).

The ‘Forum Motus’ in Stockholm is organised in co-operation and with the support of ATER Fondazione and Emilia-Romagna Region.
