Spanish premiere of "The Little Flower King" by Teatro Gioco Vita at Teatralia Festival

On stage in Madrid and in Alcobendas. March 20-23

The Little Flower King by Květa Pacovská is the text which brought together two historic Italian dance and theatre companies: Balletto di Roma and Teatro Gioco Vita.

They took inspiration from the story by Pacovská – artist, writer and illustrator of children’s books, winner of the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1992 – to explore a form of contamination between languages such as dance, shadow and music, conceiving it expressly for the little ones.

The result is “a tale for music, shadow, and dance”, a double-handed creation by Fabrizio Montecchi –direction and set design– and Valerio Longo –choreography.

As in all tales, we have the classic “Once upon a time” and the ever present “King”, but in this case he is small and curious, lives on his own, loves his garden and fills his pockets with tulip bulbs. The story is also about two youngsters who live opposite each other – so close and yet so far apart that they have never exchanged glances.

The theme of the search for happiness is treated lightly and poetically, thanks to a simple and straightforward plot. With few important words, the story comes to life on stage thanks to a rich score that enhances the beautiful drawings by Teatro Gioco Vita, based on Květa Pacovská’s illustrations, and the expressive movements of the two dancer-actors from Balletto di Roma.

The show is staged for the first time in Spain – and in Spanish – as part of the 28th edition of Teatralia - Festival Internacional de Artes Escénicas para todos los públicos (March 1-24).

Teatralia 2024 hosts works from three continents, with a large variety of formats, techniques, recommended ages, disciplines, themes, styles. With the performance The Little Flower King, the Festival wants to pay homage to Květa Pacovská, who died in February last year. Two years earlier, Balletto di Roma and Teatro Gioco Vita had made a stage adaptation of her illustrated story.

El pequeño rey de las flores will be on stage in Madrid on March 20 and 21 (Teatros del Canal, three performances at different times) and in Alcobendas on March 22 (Teatro Auditorio Ciudad de Alcobendas, 7 pm).
