OperaStreaming – “L'Elisir d'Amore” by Gaetano Donizetti

Live from the Teatro Regio di Parma on March 22, then available for six months

Second appointment of the new OperaStreaming season with the Emilia-Romagna opera productions streamed live from the historical theatres of the region and freely available by an international audience.

On March 22 (8 pm CET), on the platform YouTube channel, live streaming of L'Elisir d'Amore, a melodramma giocoso in two acts by Gaetano Donizetti to a libretto by Felice Romani.

It is a new staging by the Teatro Regio di Parma designed by Daniele Menghini, with sets by Davide Signorini, costumes by Nika Campisi and lights by Gianni Bertoli, created in co-production with the Teatro Regio di Torino.

Sesto Quatrini conducts the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Coro del Teatro Regio di Parma, Martino Faggiani choirmaster. The protagonists are: Nina Minasyan (Adina), Francesco Meli (Nemorino), Roberto de Candia (Dulcamara), Lodovico Filippo Ravizza (Belcore), and Yulia Tkachenko (Giannetta).

In Daniele Menghini's directorial idea, the characters of the opera come to life like puppets shaped by the hands of the protagonist Nemorino, the naive farmer in love with the capricious Adina to the point of relying on the balsamic elixir sold by the self-styled doctor Dulcamara: a "wooden world", therefore, created by Nemorino's imagination and art.

On stage for the first time in an opera, the Ferrari Puppets together with Daniela and Giordano Ferrari, heirs of the prestigious puppeteering tradition inaugurated at the end of the 19th century by the founder Italo Ferrari. Daniela and Giordano Ferrari will be present on the stage of the Teatro Regio for the entire duration of the opera together with 33 historical pieces from their very rich collection.

Tenderness and comedy, emotion and charm are guaranteed.

After L'Elisir d'Amore, OperaStreaming programme will continue on May 12 with Tosca by Giacomo Puccini, live from the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
