OperaStreaming – “Il tabarro” by Giacomo Puccini
New appointment on OperaStreaming with the opera productions from Emilia-Romagna: on July 23, at 7 pm (CET), streaming of Giacomo Puccini’s Il Tabarro, one of the operas from Puccini's Trittico – the new production of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in homage to the Puccini anniversary.
Il Tabarro stages a society of outcasts, people drifting on the barges of the Seine. The environment conditions the lives of the characters and their psyches, while the Seine flows and speaks in the background, their life as men on the fringe, their conflicts, their impulses unfold.
In director Pier Francesco Maestrini’s vision and conductor Roberto Abbado’s interpretation, Puccini’s three one-acts are associated with the three cantiche of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, and Il Tabarro is hell, tragedy.
The Seine, like life, flows inexorable, dark, and drags the destinies of those who live on its banks. A naturalistic rather than realistic pessimism permeates the first opera of Puccini's Trittico, and the music has a livid colour that may remind expressionism.
