Norway – Silvia Gribaudi with MM Contemporary Dance Company at CODA - Oslo International Dance Festival
Norway is the new international stage of Grand Jeté, the choreographic project by Silvia Gribaudi with MM Contemporary Dance Company – the Reggio Emilia based company directed by Michele Merola.
The performance is guest of CODA - Oslo International Dance Festival, the largest contemporary dance festival in the Nordics, which likes to define itself as ‘a meeting place for seeing, doing and talking about dance’.
The programme of this edition includes a wide range of artists, choreographers, and works that encompass diverse expressions, but which in different ways explore the theme of ‘the great leap’.
This is the ideal context for Gribaudi/MMCDC’s performance: inspired by the virtuosity of the big split in the air in ballet’s artistry, the choreographer explores the metaphorical meaning of this impressive step in everyday life.
“Pliè, jeté, tour en l’air … words that are often connected to well-known steps but which can open up other, deeper imaginaries - explains Silvia Gribaudi, who, as in previous works, is on stage and dialogues with the audience and interacts with the ten dancers of MM Contemporary Dance Company to show how a grand jeté may be an opportunity to rebel and challenge the irreversibility of any type of ending.
“Young people are those who can make all humanity take a leap”, says Silvia Gribaudi. “This is why I chose a company of young dancers who have the passion and desire to take us to other worlds starting from a grand plié, but all together to arrive at a grand jeté!”.
The performance is on stage at the Dansens Hus on October 12 (5 pm) and October 13 (7 pm).
