Latvia – Dewey Dell at Homo Novus International Festival of Contemporary Theatre

The company presents “Le Sacre du Printemps” and “I’ll do, I’ll do, I’ll do” and attends a meeting with young local artists. In Riga, August 29-31.

Dewey Dell is in Latvia for the first time, guest of the Homo Novus international festival in Riga, the leading festival of contemporary performing arts in Latvia and one of the largest in the Baltic region.

On August 29 and 30, the dance and performing arts group is on stage with Le Sacre du Printemps, their unique take on Stravinsky’s famous work winner of the Danza&Danza Award 2023 as 'Best Italian Production': “a powerful, hypnotic show” – as we can read in the motivation of the Jury –, “a rewriting of the Rite of Spring that is both modern and at the same time, full of archaic resonances, which celebrates the principle of metamorphosis as the driving force of the cosmos”.

Combined with the performance on August 30, the company will lead a tactile visit/guided tour designed for people with visual impairments but open to all, a backstage tour in which you can touch the setup, the costumes, masks, props of the show and know the dancers and their characters.

Moreover, still on August 30, after the performance, DJ DĖMĖ, a dj set at the Festival Centre curated by Demetrio Castellucci.

On August 31, Dewey Dell is on stage with another creation: I’ll do, I’ll do, I’ll do, a choreography that weaves the threads of an imagined Sabbath, drawing inspiration from ancient rites linked to the fertility of the Earth.

After the performance, the group will attend the meeting: Artists in conversation – Art is Young. In conversation with local young artists, they will discuss the expectations, the visions of the future of their generation and how they can be achieved in art.
The conversation is part of a series of events organised by the Italian Embassy in Riga titled Caffè Young Italy, a project that, besides introducing Italian emerging talents in different artistic fields, aims at fostering dialogue among young Italian and Latvian creative communities.

After the festival in Riga, Dewey Dell will be on tour again with the two shows in South Korea in early September, at the international dance festival in Seoul and Gunsan.

The tour in Latvia is made with the support of Emilia-Romagna Region and ATER Fondazione and the collaboration of the Embassy of Italy in Riga.
