From January 27 to February 5 in the Tel Aviv and Jerusalem Cinematheques

On the occasion of the realise of Marco Bellocchio’s latest film Kidnapped (Rapito) in Israeli cinemas, the Italian Cultural Institutes in Tel Aviv and Haifa, in co-operation with Cinecittà, Cinema Italia and the Israeli Cinematheques, present a homage to Marco Bellocchio, that will open on January 27 to run until February 5.

The programme starts on a significant date and with the film by Bellocchio that, as the organizers point out, “takes us back to the origins of anti-Semitism, a topic that is unfortunately even more relevant today after the tragic events of October 7th“.
As is known, the film tells the authentic story of Edgardo Mortara, a young boy of a Jewish family in Bologna who in 1858 was kidnapped and locked up in a Catholic college by order of Pope Pius IX.

Bellocchio is recognized as one of the greatest Italian and international directors: he was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice International Film Festival and the Honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Besides Kidnapped, the programme includes some of the Emilian director’s most significant works, starting from one of his first films, Fists in the Pocket (1965), to the ones of the last decades: The Traitor (2019), Sweet Dreams (2017), Blood of My Blood (2015), and Good Morning, Night (2003).
